Yankee Meadow-Fall 2010

Yankee Meadow in Parowan Canyon is one of our favorite fall places. Unfortunately, I don't have the skills to make my camera show the real intensity of color for it was truly beautiful. We felt lucky to have caught them for we are sometimes too late for Conference Weekend, which is our typical best time to have a free weekend for browsing.

Nicole and her fancy camera get into some interesting perches and positions trying to get the best shots.

Nicole and I are content to look at the leaves and wander down the trails. Kent likes to touch, smell, breathe, talk to...... etc. He gets real personal with them.

We loved our KFC Lunch. Once we got it, that is....... When we went to order it, KFC told us that they were out, yes, out of chicken! We patiently waited for the next batch and they rewarded us with some extras.

It doesn't show well in this picture, but this little pine tree appears to be decorated with the red leaves that have fallen on its branches. It was beautiful.

I look pretty silly in this test photo to see if the leaves and lighting were good, but since I never appear to be in any photos for I am always on the other side of the camera, I decided to leave it in.

Labor Day Four Wheeling Frenzy at Jacob Lake

It is a tradition to go to Jacob Lake camping for Labor Day weekend. We have all enjoyed traveling the old logging roads to the rim by snowmobile and by four wheeler. It is great to escape the heat of St. George and find the peace of the Kaibab forest.
The wind really wanted to take off with my hat. Not only did I not want to lose the hat, but my hair was looking really good about then!!!

Kent always sleeps in the back of the truck- out under the stars. I prefer the tent (but I could still hear him snore- nice homey touch!)

The sheik of the Kaibab.

The Patriarch and Matriarch of the whole frenzied family!

Dad making my favorite meal- Dutch Oven Potatoes!! Love his sausage, bacon and onion in it!
Bob's specialty- Beer Can chicken- or Sprite, etc.....
Nicole standing in the "parking lot"!
Seth made himself a great bow and arrow.
We have climbed the fire tower many times, but this time, there was a park ranger employee who let us in the top booth and Kent loved looking at his weather instruments and maps. It was very interesting.

Mattix wading through the wildflowers.
Nicole trying to get pictures of butterflies.

Chloe on the rim- pretty precarious perch!
Mattix traveled all the way there on the fourwheeler and then refused to look down!

Evidently, I dress like an outhouse!
Dad didn't know we were taking his picture. He really does take time to stop and smell the flowers! We had many stops to enjoy the beauty.
View from the fire tower- after seeing such long stretches of red sand on a daily basis, it blows your mind to see nothing but forest as far as you can see.

Looking up the 120 foot tower. The wind was also blowing 50miles an hour so it was an even more perilous climb than usual.
Just like in the car, the four wheelers rock the kids to sleep.
We took a short cut through the "Enchanted Forest" where the pine trees in this area are covered with moss- very eerie looking.

Don't you love how clean my glasses are- unfortunately that same dust exists on my teeth, hair and skin!!

Those goggles are stylin!

Making breakfast!
Chloe has a fourwheeler just her size

Home Sweet Home
We took Adam's truck out there for it is more comfortable with the double cab and still fits all of our camping crap.
Hannah LOVED her horned toad
He is a handsome devil

Nicole got some good shots of the wildflowers that were beautiful.
